Environmental system ISO14001

ISO 14001 has required a significant commitment from all 130+ employees at Sterling, since first achieving the standard in November 2006.

Sterling Press has been introducing “green” working practises for many years and has always been conscious of its social responsibility, particularly the obligation to minimise the environmental footprint of the company wherever possible.

Developing an Environmental Management System was necessary to further tighten our environmental controls, with the involvement of employees at all levels, the important milestone of achieving registration
to the standard was achieved in less than a year.

Sterling’s internal communication programme has paid dividends, to the extent that the external assessor from the British Standards Institute commented that; ‘the company has achieved a high level of compliance with the ISO 14001:2004 standard with clearly demonstrable improvements already achieved, staff at all levels showed a high level of knowledge and commitment’.

The continued success of the company has been achieved in parallel with the introduction of a structured Environmental Management System, as such we continue to work closely with our customers and suppliers in
order that we meet our key environmental objectives:-

  • To reduce our consumption of Natural Resources
  • To minimise the wastage of Natural Resources
  • To reduce our consumption of Hazardous Chemicals
  • To minimise the emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds
    (Hazardous Chemicals)
  • To ensure the safe storage and disposal of Hazardous Chemicals
  • To ensure compliance with applicable Environmental Legislation/Regulation
  • To increase the Environmental Awareness of employees through
    regular training
  • To reduce our consumption of Packaging Materials and encourage recycling and re-use by the end user
  • To purchase environmentally sensitive products and services wherever possible and increase customer knowledge of these options
