Sterling's investment programme continues to pay dividends

August 08

Sterling became the first company worldwide to install two Heidelberg XL 105 presses, with the installation of a second press in August 2008. The additional purchase was spurred by the incredible work rate and efficiency of the initial press (installed in February 2008). Nearly all of its work runs at the machine’s top speed of 15000 sph. Makeready times have been halved and paper waste reduced dramatically. The new press comes with Inpress Colour Control - measuring technology, which automates colour and register. This means only around 200 makeready sheets per job will be required. Intellistart press software will reduce set up times still further.

Other recent investments include the most progressive computer to plate technology available, a brand new colour control system linked to all presses, as well as new, state of the art mailing and personalisation equipment. In addition Sterling installed a second HP Indigo 5000 digital press in November 2007 which boosts the company’s existing colour and mono digital print capabilities.

Alongside this latest investment programme, Sterling remains one of only
7 companies in the world to have integrated its press and MIS partners – Heidelberg, Man Roland and Tharstern – with a completely automatic workflow system.

The capital investment programme in 2008 alone exceeded £6m. Not only does this keep the business ahead of its competition, but it is almost unprecedented in the industry at this time.
